Jáchymov

Established in 1906, the world’s first radon spa is a unique place due to the remarkable results achieved by treating patients with water containing high concentrations of radon, the widely-recognised methods employed in Czech rehabilitation and the individual approach used by the spa’s doctors. The town’s spa zone is home to hotels, restaurants, the Agricola aqua centre and an idyllic spa park where you will find a bandstand, a children’s playground and lake. The spa is surrounded by forest through which several special walking trails lead.

Radon-rich water is used in spa procedures. The healing effect of radon – a chemically inert gas – is down to soft ionizing alpha radiation. When the organism is repeatedly exposed to this in small doses, certain processes are stimulated such as the regeneration of damaged DNA, tissue repair, increased secretion of anti-inflammatory cortisol and the release of the „happy hormone“ endorphin. The immune system is activated. All of the above explains why radon baths are so effective and their analgesic effect.
