The imprints of history can be felt at every step in Cheb Castle.
After all, a royal wedding and the murder of the aides of Duke Albrecht von Wallenstein both took place here. It is the only Staufen imperial palace in the Czech Republic. However, due to war in the 18th century, only a fragment remains of the palace and the Romanesque fortress of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, including the mighty defensive Black Tower and a unique Romanesque-Gothic chapel.
The underground casemates, with an exhibition on Cheb stove-making, are also open to visitors, as are tombstones from the original Slavic burial ground.
