The 12th-century Chyše Chateau was made famous by Karel Čapek, who stayed here in 1917 and immortalised it in his masterpieces Krakatit and The Makropulos Affair.
The Baroque building was owned by several noble families, with the Lažanský family as its final residents. After the war, it was nationalised and fell into disrepair until the 1990s, when a descendant of the Lažanský family regained it and a complete restoration began. You can explore the château interiors, including a hall with a ceiling painting by Petr Brandl, the cellars and an exhibition dedicated to Karel Čapek.
