One of the most popular winter sports in the Karlovy Vary Region is cross-country skiing, for which there are excellent conditions here. The western part of the Ore Mountains is criss-crossed by hundreds of kilometres of groomed cross-country trails, often connecting to ski routes in Germany. The 41-kilometre backbone route of the Ore Mountains Trail runs along the ridge and links winter resorts and settlements from Bublava through Rolava, Jelení, Pernink and Hřebečná to Boží Dar.
The surroundings of Boží Dar are a true cross-country skier’s paradise, offering 120 kilometres of groomed trails of varying difficulty. Kilometres of quality ski tracks can also be found near Abertamy, Pernink and Horní Blatná, as well as in the popular Eduard Ski Resort between Jáchymov and Boží Dar. Here, you can also try skijoring, a discipline in which a cross-country skier wears a waist belt and is connected by a towline to the harness of one or two dogs. What a ride!
