The Ore Mountains offer plenty of wind, and snow arrives here much earlier than in other parts of the country. The open plains are spacious enough and have excellent airflow, which often reaches much higher speeds than elsewhere. Boží Dar offers excellent conditions for snowkiting. Your children will love riding down frozen channels on inflatable tubes. You can also go skiing with a dog sled team.
You can try snowkiting in Abertamy as well, where a groomed freestyle snowkite park, equipment rental and kite school with courses for beginners and advanced riders await. There is also a snow bar, Wi-Fi zone and, of course, plenty of space for landkiting and freeride snowkiting. The advantage of this snowkiting spot is its elevation of more than 900 metres. As a result, the kite centre is usually covered in snow for almost half the year.
Popular snowshoe hiking and sledding with Siberian huskies at the Eduard Sports Complex are memorable experiences. If you want to clear your mind and recharge your energy, take a three-day winter survival course with professional soldiers. Head to Horní Blatná to enjoy sledding on the machine-groomed track at Blatná Hill, with a 100-metre vertical drop. If the weather is not favourable, try ice skating at public arenas in the KV Arena in Karlovy Vary or at ice rinks in Ostrov, Cheb, Sokolov, Nejdek and Mariánské Lázně. On suitably frosty days, you can also skate on natural bodies of water amid fairytale scenery.
