Set out along one of the many interesting nature trails and discover the natural wealth of the Karlovy Vary Region. The romantic Ore Mountains, mysterious corners of Slavkov Forest and many other locations invite you to explore. Enjoy time spent in nature and learn something new. One of the most interesting trails is the Kladská Nature Trail. It begins in front of the hunting lodge and leads around Kladská Pond through the Kladská Peat Bogs Nature Reserve. This easy route along wooden walkways takes you through the largest of the five peat bogs and introduces you to the diverse fauna and flora of this beautiful reserve.
The Blatná Ditch Nature Trail follows the entire length of a historic water channel that once supplied water to mines in the Ore Mountains. Its twenty-three stops provide interesting information about ecology, history, forestry and mining. Construction of the Blatná Ditch began in 1540 and was completed four years later. Although it no longer serves its original purpose, it was declared a technical monument in 1980, and an educational trail was established alongside it.
The 3.5-kilometre Poohří Nature Trail runs along the Ohře River and is suitable for both hikers and cyclists. The trail focuses on the history, nature and points of interest of the Ohře River basin. It introduces the history, vegetation, geology, Skalka waterworks and the historical settlement of the Ohře region.
The trail from Andělská hora to Kyselka is intended for more experienced hikers. It measures up to eighteen kilometres with detours and ten kilometres without them. The trail begins behind the church, at the staircase leading to the castle ruins, and passes through Štichl’s Mill, Šemnice Rock and the Goblin Rocks. It tells, for example, the story of the founding of the castle at Andělská hora and presents interesting facts about the springs of the Doupov Mountains and the European EECONET ecological network.
A popular educational trail for families with children is the Baby Jesus Trail. The route begins at the Boží Dar Information Centre, where visitors can collect instructions and the Baby Jesus notebook. There are thirteen interesting stops along the route, each dedicated to a character from the world of Baby Jesus. Children fill in answers to questions in their notebooks, having fun and taking breaks along the way. After completing the tasks, they receive small gifts at the Information Centre.
From Mariánské Lázně, you can set out on the short Smraďoch Nature Trail, with its emerging hydrogen sulphide gases. Here you can literally appreciate the gases with your own nose and discover that the name Smraďoch, meaning “Stinky Place”, is more than fitting.
The Mnichov Serpentinite Nature Trail takes you over twelve kilometres through the Upolínová louka National Natural Monument, home to many rare meadow plants, and the Křížky National Natural Monument. It also presents the geological development of serpentinite and its decorative uses.
