The well-known Czech expression “panenko skákavá” originates from the pilgrimage site in Skoky.
Its history dates back to 1717, when a local farmer built a small chapel here. Following several miracles and healings, a single-nave Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in its place. Pilgrimages to the church began and continued through both World Wars and the socialist era. Over the years, the church itself fell into disrepair, and its rescued valuables are now kept at the monastery in Teplá. They return to their original place only during pilgrimages.
