The Roman Catholic church, standing in the middle of Goethe Square, is unique for its architecture, organ and interior.
The church was built between 1844 and 1848 in a historicist Neo-Byzantine style. Upon entering, everyone is struck by the magnificent blue, star-studded vaulted ceiling, supported by eight massive pillars. Thirty-three steps lead to the church, recalling the age of Christ at his death. The staircase is symbolically interrupted three times in memory of Christ’s three stumbles while carrying the cross to Golgotha.
