The Karlovy Vary Region is made for cycling enthusiasts. Cycle routes of varying difficulty lead through charming and diverse landscapes. Choose yours and see for yourself. Your destinations can include medieval castles, ruins and châteaux. Taste mineral springs in spa towns or specialities from regional breweries. Take in the surrounding nature from lookouts and observation towers, or visit mines where you can discover the 800-year history of Ore Mountains mining, inscribed on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage.
Before setting off, gather information from the Karlovy Vary Region cycling portal. Among the most popular routes is the Ohře Cycle Route, thanks to its pleasant terrain and the many attractions you will see along the way. You can visit Cheb, Loket, the Svatoš Rocks natural monument and the town of Karlovy Vary.
Another popular cycle route is the Ore Mountains Trail, which is also accessible to cross-country skiing enthusiasts in winter. A total of 250 kilometres along the ridges of the Ore Mountains await true adventurers and cycling enthusiasts.
Two of the fourteen international routes in the EuroVelo network pass through the Karlovy Vary Region. EuroVelo 13 is called the Iron Curtain Trail and runs through the areas of Cheb and Aš before continuing to neighbouring Germany. EuroVelo 4 crosses Route 13 in Cheb and continues all the way to western France. The Charles Trail is also an international cycle route, connecting the towns of Aue and Karlovy Vary across the Ore Mountains ridge.
With a total length of 160 kilometres, it offers a royal cycling experience in the Saxon-Czech western Ore Mountains. Another tip is the Czech-Bavarian Spa Cycle Region, which will lead you in nine stages to ten beautiful spa towns on both sides of the Czech-German border.
