The mysterious and deep Ore Mountains. The winter here is harsh, but the scenery is all the better for it. And not only that! In the Ore Mountains you will find perfect downhill conditions. It’s not the Alps, but even the most demanding skier or snowboarder will find something to do here. Few people know that even in the Czech mountains you can find quite long slopes that will delight winter sports enthusiasts. Did you know that the longest ski slope in the Czech Republic is located in the Ore Mountains? We bring you a special feature that focuses on the best ski resorts in the Karlovy Vary Region. Even with a video!

Ski resort Klínovec

The Klínovec Ski Resort is the largest and most modern ski resort in the Ore Mountains. Together with the German ski resort Fichtelberg it forms the InterSkiregion Fichtelberg-Klínovec. When you buy a multi-day ski pass you can automatically use up to 47 km of perfectly groomed slopes. In addition, transport between the ski areas is free. Take advantage of the opportunity to ski literally without borders!

But let’s go back to the Czech side. Already in the interwar period, the peak was popular with Czech and German ski jumpers who trained and competed on the natural ski jumps. A few years later, a part of the forest was cleared and the first ski slopes were built on the slope, namely Dámská and U Zabitýho. Several legends are connected with the name. One says that one of the competitors was fatally injured on the track. Another says that a man was found on the spot, killed by a violent death. Either way, it is the steepest and hardest slope in the Klínovec Ore Mountains. So head here when you’re really confident in your skis.

Since 1968, the resort has been growing at lightning speed, and today you can ski a total of 31.5 km of slopes on Klínovec. There are 5 lifts, 11 ski lifts and 5 ski strips (children’s parks). The lifts are open every day from 9 am to 4 pm and in the case of night skiing until 9 pm. You can buy your ski pass online, avoiding the long and boring queue.  The complete price list can be found here.

Freeride skiers will enjoy the two ungroomed slopes with natural snow, while freestyle skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the perfect snow park.

Ski resort Boží Dar – Neklid

Freestyle skiers and snowboarders will also have fun at Neklid. It is a relatively young part of the Klínovec ski resort. Freestyle is truly blessed here, because you will find one of the oldest snow parks in the Czech Republic. Fans of classic downhill skiing will also find it to their liking. There are ten ski slopes of all difficulty levels in the area with a total length of over 6 kilometres. A modern cable car, which can handle almost 2,000 people per hour, four anchors and two pom poms will take you to them. It runs every day from 9am to 4pm.

You should know that the local conditions are very favourable for snowkiting. With its 1,028 metres above sea level, Boží Dar is the highest town in Central Europe. This means not only long winters and lots of snow, but also strong winds, which is the alpha and omega of snowkiting. There are also a huge number of cross-country skiing trails in the area. Not far from Neklid you can even find the start of the famous Erzgebirge Highway. In short, a paradise for cross-country skiers.

Ski resort Plešivec

Everything is just a stone’s throw away – just a short distance away is another perfect ski resort. Ski resort Plešivec is the youngest and most modern ski resort in the country. Thanks to this, it is fully and professionally snow-covered and illuminated. There are eight slopes of different difficulty, length and elevation. All slopes are clear and more than wide enough. Transportation around the area is provided by three four-seater lifts, three lifts and four moving belts. This means you don’t have to worry about spending ages queuing. There’s simply no danger of those.

The resort also has families with children in mind. There is a great children’s park! Children can enjoy forty attractions, which include a carousel, an artificial tunnel in the shape of a large sponge, many animals, a several-meter long snake used to practice arches and other attractions that will definitely not be boring. The equation is quite obvious. Happy child, happy parent! A very useful tool is the artificial stairs, thanks to which even the smallest ones will learn to climb up the contours so that their skis don’t slip. To ensure that children do not get tired while skiing, there are moving tracks with lengths of 30, 40 and 80 metres. These will give rides to even the smallest children who can’t manage the lift on their own.

There is a lookout tower, a restaurant and a hotel of the same name right at the top of Plešivec. In Pstruží there is Apresski bar U Dostyho, restaurant Fabrika Art in hotel Zelené Údolí and bistro Stodola. There is also the Chalupa bistro near the children’s centre and the very popular Skibar right on one of the slopes.
